The opening day of Round 5 of the Saudi Pro League showcased the brilliance of African players, as Fashion Sakala and Myziane Maolida stole the spotlight with decisive performances that shaped their teams’ results on Friday.

Maolida inspires Al-Kholood’s 5–1 rout of Al-Najma

Al-Kholood delivered a dominant 5–1 victory over newly promoted Al-Najma, with Comorian winger Myziane Maolida producing a very good display.

Maolida was instrumental in two of his team’s goals — first, winning a 22nd-minute penalty that Ramiro Enrique converted, before scoring Al-Kholood’s third goal in the 46th minute with a strike from inside the area.

This commanding win marked Al-Kholood’s third victory in five matches, lifting them temporarily to fourth place with five points.

Sakala strikes for Al-Fayha in draw against Al-Ittihad

In another fixture, Al-Ittihad were held to a 1–1 draw by Al-Fayha, thanks to another impressive display from Zambian international Fashion Sakala.

Sakala put Al-Fayha ahead with a powerful left-footed strike from inside the box after beating an Al-Ittihad defender with skill. The forward’s goal once again underlined his growing influence in the Saudi topflight.

The draw saw Al-Fayha move temporarily up to ninth in the standings with eight points, while Al-Ittihad dropped valuable points in their pursuit of the league leaders.
