Marc Brys denies resignation, remains Cameroon head coach for now

Marc Brys’s resignation as head coach of Cameroon has turned out to be fake. The Belgian coach is once again at the center of controversy after a false resignation letter circulated on social media.

According to Camfoot, the Cameroonian Football Federation (FECAFOOT) was about to officially announce that Brys was no longer coach of the Indomitable Lions. However, the letter was found to be fake and the moment of celebration among FECAFOOT president Samuel Eto’o’s supporters ended prematurely.

Eto’o and Brys have been at odds since the latter was appointed by the Cameroon Ministry of Youth and Sports. This is not the first controversy involving the coach and the federation president.

Brys has confirmed that he is planning ahead for the September edition of the 2026 FIFA World Cup African qualifiers, brushing off the resignation claims. In a video statement, the coach affirmed he remains in charge of the national team.

“I was surprised by the things published. I haven’t resigned. I don’t see why I would. It is not necessary. I live in Greece, so I couldn’t have signed that letter. Again, I am still the coach of Cameroon. We’re busy with the future. We are focused on qualifying for the World Cup. We want to prepare in good conditions. We have qualified for AFCON 2025. We have a lot of work to do. I hope the fans will support us for these two events.”

Brys remains under contract with the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
