The FUFA Uganda Premier League has unveiled a new trophy, a striking symbol that encapsulates the country's natural beauty and the high-stakes competition of its top-tier football.

Named Margherita, the trophy is inspired by Uganda's majestic mountain ranges, with particular homage to its highest peak, Mount Margherita, standing tall at 5.11km above sea level.

Just as this peak represents the zenith of Uganda’s natural landscapes, the trophy symbolizes the ultimate achievement for the nation’s best football team. The design of the Margherita trophy is a visual narrative of the football journey.

It mirrors the country’s towering hills, where top-flight football clubs fiercely compete to rise above each other, with the singular aim of reaching the pinnacle of Ugandan football. The trophy's shape, a vertical football stretched upwards, represents the ambition and drive of the teams striving to reach that summit.

A crescent-shaped top chord evokes a young moon, symbolizing new beginnings, while the hexagonal and pentagonal panels of the football nod to the traditional design of the sport’s most iconic symbol.

Mounted atop a semi-spherical base with dimpled ball patterns, the trophy is supported by two tiers, each carefully designed to enhance its elegance and significance. The upper tier carries the engraved words ‘FUFA’ and ‘Uganda Premier League’, solidifying the trophy's official stature, while the lower tier features a glossy black finish, providing visual contrast and stability.

Standing 511mm tall, the trophy’s height echoes the 5.11km of Mount Margherita, linking the award with Uganda's most iconic natural landmark. Crafted from fine silver, Margherita is more than just an award, it is a story in itself, one of ambition, beauty, and the spirit of competition that defines the game in Uganda.

This trophy is a beacon of prestige, representing not just the best team in the league, but also the drive and resilience that defines top-flight football in the nation. In a significant moment for the Uganda Premier League, Vipers SC will become the first team to lift the Margherita trophy, having already secured the 2024/25 title with a game to spare.

Their crowning ceremony will take place on Saturday, May 24, at the St Mary’s Stadium Kitende, as they host the already relegated Soltilo Bright Stars FC on the final matchday of the season.

This occasion will mark a historic moment in Ugandan football, as the team that has dominated the league this season officially receives the Margherita trophy in recognition of their triumph.

With this new emblem of excellence, the FUFA Uganda Premier League has set the stage for a new era of competition and achievement, with the Margherita trophy serving as a constant reminder of the high aspirations and pride that come with being crowned Uganda's best.
