Marius’ double lifts Samsunspor to Turkish Cup victory

Two goals from striker Marius Mouandilmadji was enough for Turkish Süper Lig club Samsunspor to maintain their perfect record in the Turkish Cup with a 2-0 victory over second tier side Bodrumspor.

The Chad national team superstar displayed his poaching instincts with two goals scored from close range. His first goal in the 48th minute came after young Bodrum goalkeeper Ruzgar Adiyaman spilled Marius’ initial header, after which the forward followed up for an easy finish from the rebound.

In second half stoppage time, the former Coton Sport de Garoua player scored in similar circumstances to secure the victory in a sleepy match. A long range effort was spilled by Adiyaman once again in the final minute of the match and Mouandilmandji was in an excellent position to score.

The former FC Porto player has now scored in all three of his club’s cup fixtures, collecting four goals to rank amongst the top scorers in the competition.

He has struggled to make an impact in Süper Lig matches this season but continues to find success in the cup as well as Samsunspor’s continental campaign in the UEFA Conference League. The club qualified for the Round of 32 in the Conference League knockout stages with Mouandilmandji producing 4 goals and 2 assists from 6 matches.

In all competitions, he now has 11 goals and 2 assists in 30 matches across all competitions. His club currently sit at the top of Group B in the cup and appear set to qualify for the knockout stage of the competition.

They will finish up the group stage on March 4 against Antalyaspor after a busy stretch that includes league action as well as their upcoming Conference League Round of 32 clash against North Macedonian club Shkendija, with the first leg away on February 19.
