Mathare United have completed the signing of striker John Macharia on a one-year-deal ahead of the new season.
“We are delighted to announce that Kenyan international John Macharia has committed his future to Mathare United, signing a one-year deal,” confirmed a statement from the ‘Slum Boys.”
Capped by the Harambee Stars, the left-footed forward spent last season with Bandari. Macharia brings with him a wealth of experience from competing in the Premier League and overseas.
The 26-year-old spent four years in the Georgian topflight with Kolkheti Poti, whom he joined in 2017, just a year removed from clearing his O-Levels.
After his time in Europe, the Nakuru native returned to the country at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic and signed with Gor Mahia, where he won two league titles in four seasons.
Referred to as Mashaa by his peers, Macharia links up with former Gor teammates Peter Oudu, Musa Masika and John Nyawir. Macharia and Masika’s link-up stretches way beyond professional football, with the two parts of the golden age class that led Laiser Hill to the 2016 KSSSA Raising Stars national title.
Blessed with pace and an eye for the spectacular, Macharia is well known to coach John Kamau, who had him in his line-up during his stint with the Kenyan U20 team.
