Mauritania starlet Beyatt Lekoueiry scores in MOTM performance for Lausanne

Mauritania national team rising star Beyatt Lekoueiry is continuing to make a strong impression in Switzerland with a Man of the Match performance in Lausanne-Sport’s 1-1 Swiss Super League draw at Lugano on Wednesday.

The 20-year-old equalized for visitors Lausanne at Lugano, also showing off his ability to trouble defenses with pace and active pressing. His positive attributes were on full display early in the second half when he pressed the Lugano defense into a turnover before maneuvering past a defender and finishing with his left foot in the 51st minute.

It was a good result for Lausanne, who earned a point after falling to defeat in their previous two Super League matches. After breaking into the Lausanne first team in the second half of the 2024-25 season, Lekoueiry has played in all twelve competitive matches this season for the club with two goals and two assists.

Beyatt Lekoueiry’s rise in Mauritania and European football

After developing in the youth academy of Mauritanian powerhouse FC Nouadhibou, Lekoueiry made his first appearance for the Mauritania national team at the age of 17 with a cameo against Mali in the final group stage match of their 2021 Africa Cup of Nations campaign.

Impressive performances with another Mauritanian club, AS Douanes, led to his first move to Europe with Croatia’s Istra 1961 where he produced four goals and four assists in seventeen matches before moving to Lausanne for the second half of the 2024-25 season. He is currently a regular member of the Mauritania national team, appearing in seven matches from 2025 AFCON qualifying and 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying.

Lekoueiry and Lausanne next face third tier side FC Concordia in the Swiss Cup on Sunday.
