The ninth round of Mauritania's Super D1 has one match remaining on Tuesday but there is no doubt about which club is imposing itself. Sudanese titans Al-Hilal Omdurman, a guest participant this season due to the ongoing war in Sudan, remained undefeated through eight matches to stay two points clear at the top of the table.
Hilal defeated AS Pompiers by a 2-0 score on Sunday at the Cheikha Ould Boïdiya Stadium to give the 29-time Sudanese champions 20 points from 8 matches. Tunisian forward Taieb Ben Zitoun opened the scoring for Hilal with a first half penalty kick and Yasir Mozamil doubled the lead in the 75th minute when the forward finished from a cross. Pompiers found a late consolation goal but it was too late to affect the result.
Hilal's rivals Al-Merreikh are also performing well in the top division of Mauritanian football. Merreikh defeated FC Ksar with a 1-0 result on Saturday, scoring the only goal of the match late in the first half to leave themselves with 11 points from 6 matches.
The champions of the last seven editions of the Super D1, FC Nouadhibou, have been struggling to find their form with the departure of several key players before the season. However they are undefeated in their last six matches and defeated Chemal FC by a 2-0 score on Monday. The attack continues to sputter with only 4 goals in 9 matches but there are signs of improvement.
