In a title clash from Mauritania's top flight Super D1, CAF Champions League quarterfinalists Al-Hilal Omdurman and reigning champions FC Nouadhibou played to a 1-1 draw on Monday.
Mauritania national team attacking midfielder Abdullahi Mahmoud leveled the match around the hour mark for Nouadhibou. The former Alaves player was in the right place to punch home his finish after a driving run through the Hilal defense opened up space for a shot.
Hilal previously got off to a strong start. In the 4th minute, the Hilal attack exploited the Nouadhibou defense with a right wing attack and Mauritanian international Ahmed Salem finished from a tight angle to put Hilal into the lead.
Hilal remain in control of the title race for now in their adopted league this season due to the ongoing war in Sudan. They are unbeaten in eight matches since being eliminated from the CAF Champions League by Al Ahly and now hold a one-point lead over Nouadhibou. The Sudanese giants also have still played two less matches than Monday's opponents, who only have three remaining.
Hilal will continue to make up matches this week with a clash on Thursday against Nouakchott Kings before facing midtable Pompiers three days later.
