Sudanese giants Al-Hilal Omdurman have not yet claimed top spot in Mauritania's top flight Super D1 but it feels inevitable at this point.
With four games in hand on leaders FC Nouadhibou due to their CAF Champions League duties, Hilal remain only three points back following Tuesday evening's 3-0 victory over Garde Nationale.
Burundi national team winger Jean Claude Girumugisha scored twice in the second half to confirm victory for Hilal. After an early goal from Senegalese midfielder Aime Tendeng, relegation battlers Garde Nationale were picked apart by the speed of Hilal on clinical goals from transition with Girumugisha providing goals close to the hour mark and the 81st minute.
Earlier on Tuesday, FC Nouadhibou maintained their lead at the top for now. Mauritanian footballing legend Bessam scored in Nouadhibou's 3-0 victory ASC Ksar, who played most of the match with a numerical disadvantage after an early red card.
Hilal, playing in the Mauritanian top flight along with rivals Al Merrikh due to the war in Sudan, will continue to focus on securing the league title as their schedule intensifies. They next host ASC SNIM on Friday.
