Uganda Premier League side Mbale Heroes have suspended head coach Asaph Mwebaze for 28 days, effective immediately to address serious allegations raised against him.

A statement from the club reads: “This decision follows serious allegations brought against him which are now the subject of a comprehensive investigation. In keeping with the club’s commitment to maintaining the highest standards of professionalism and integrity, Mwebaze will not be involved in any coaching or management activities during this period. This step has been taken in the best interests of the club, its stakeholders, and to ensure Mwebaze’s safety.”

As a result, Mwebaze will miss Mbale Heroes’ upcoming league matches against Maroons FC and NEC FC adding to the challenges for a team currently in the relegation zone in the Uganda Premier League.

Mwebaze previously parted ways with the club during the 2023/24 FUFA Big League season due to unpaid salary arrears but returned earlier this season following the departure of Richard Malinga.

His future at the club remains uncertain as investigations continue.
