Bryan Mbeumo scores, Amad Diallo assists in dramatic Manchester United win

Bryan Mbeumo and Amad Diallo helped Manchester United finally taste victory in the 2025/26 Premier League season, edging past Burnley 3-2 in a thrilling contest at Old Trafford on Saturday.

It was far from straightforward for United, who twice surrendered the lead before Bruno Fernandes sealed the win deep into stoppage time with a composed penalty.

United struck first in the 27th minute through a stroke of fortune. A rebound off the crossbar ricocheted off Burnley’s Josh Cullen and into his own net, handing the hosts a 1-0 advantage.

Burnley responded after the break, with Lyle Foster finishing from a low cross in the 55th minute to level the score at 1-1. Just two minutes later, United restored their lead when Bryan Mbeumo slotted home from a cutback by Diogo Dalot.

The visitors, however, refused to fold. In the 66th minute, Jaidon Anthony punished goalkeeper Altay Bayındır’s poor clearance, firing home to make it 2-2.

As the game drifted into stoppage time, substitute Amad Diallo was brought down in the box, prompting the referee—after a VAR review—to award a penalty. Captain Bruno Fernandes stepped up in the 97th minute to secure all three points and United’s first league win of the season.

The victory offered relief for United and their manager Ruben Amorim, particularly after the midweek humiliation of being knocked out of the Carabao Cup by fourth-tier Grimsby Town.

With this result, United move to four points from their opening three league games, following a draw with Fulham and defeat to Arsenal.

This was Mbeumo’s first goal and Diallo’s first assist of the season for Manchester United. Mbuemo had joined the club in the current transfer window from Brentford.
