Cameroonian forward Bryan Mbeumo has revealed his delight at scoring for Manchester United against Liverpool in their 2-1 Premier League victory at Anfield on Sunday.

Mbeumo struck just two minutes into the game, converting a precise through ball from Ivorian winger Amad Diallo with a composed finish inside the box to give United an early lead.

According to OptaJoe, Mbeumo’s strike was the first time since 1995 that a goal was scored inside two minutes in a league fixture between Liverpool and United.

Liverpool fought their way back into the contest equalising in the 78th minute through Cody Gakpo, but United’s captain Harry Maguire delivered the decisive moment, heading home the winner in the 84th minute.

Mbeumo has now scored two goals for Man United

“It’s fantastic [to win at Anfield]. We played a good match, very compact, solidary. An important victory,” Mbeumo said as quoted by Tribuna.com after the game. “Scoring in front of them [Liverpool fans] and silencing them, that was nice.”

This was Mbeumo’s second goal for Man United since making the switch from Brentford last summer, while Diallo’s assist marked his second of the league campaign in seven matches.

The Red Devils achieved their first Premier League victory over Liverpool at Anfield since January 2016, when Louis van Gaal’s side triumphed 1-0. The win also marked United’s first away league victory since defeating Leicester City in March, ending a run of eight consecutive away matches without a win.
