What was meant to be a night of celebration turned into a heartbreaking tragedy in Algeria, as the final matchday of the Algerian Ligue 1 Professionnelle was overshadowed by a deadly incident and several injuries after Mouloudia Club d'Alger (MC Alger) were confirmed as champions.

MCA secured the 2024–25 Algerian top flight title for the second consecutive season after a goalless draw against NC Magra, clinching the trophy by just two points ahead of JS Kabylie.

However, after the final whistle, a part of the fence in the upper stands collapsed, resulting in eleven injuries and the death of one fan.

The tragedy cast a heavy shadow over the occasion. Festivities were immediately halted, with the league trophy presentation and the post-match press conferences for both coaches cancelled out of respect for the victims. The atmosphere in the stadium shifted from joy to sorrow.

Despite the devastating end to the season, MC Alger were confirmed champions with 58 points, while JS Kabylie finished second on 56. Both clubs will represent Algeria in the 2025–26 CAF Champions League.
