Ethiopian Premier League side Mechal SC are contemplating a change in their head coach following a poor run of form. The army side lost three league games in a row and head coach Mulugeta Miherete is being put under heavy pressure.
Miherete took charge of Mechal at the beginning of the new season following a superb time at Hawassa Ketema. The former Ethiopian national team midfielder was one of the most sought-after trainers during the summer. Mechal appointed Miherete as the club planned to challenge for the title. Mechal are now seventh with 20 points, nine points adrift of table toppers Sidama Coffee. The club has lost three games in a row, and Miherete is now in the hot seat on the technical bench.
Pan-Africa Football understands Mechal are contemplating a change of trainer. An insider source told Pan-Africa Football that Miherete is walking a tightrope. “Miherete is now under heavy pressure, especially as that loss to Bahirdar Ketema was a heavy blow, as club officials contemplate another coach to take the helm. The problem is Miherete has only been here for a few months, but results are not satisfactory, so a change in the technical bench is on the cards.”
Ethiopian Premier League side Ethiopian Coffee recently parted ways with their head coach Abiy Kassahun. CAF Confederation Cup–bound Wolayta Dicha also sacked Gebrekristos Birara only a few weeks into his tenure. Birara was head coach of Mechal last season.
Mechal will play struggling Arbaminch Ketema on the 17th of January, as Miherete hopes to rally his charges back to winning ways. Another poor outing in week 15 of the league will likely result in Miherete leaving his post.
