Ghana Premier League: Medeama fail to go top after Holy Stars draw

Medeama SC fought from a goal down to draw 1-1 against Basake Holy Stars in their week 15 Ghana Premier League match at the Tarkwa TnA Park on Monday.

Medeama were just behind leaders Aduana FC by two points, and they needed to win the Western regional derby to climb into top spot with an outstanding game against reigning champions Gold Stars.

Holy Stars shot ahead in the 30th minute when the captain of the side, Koffie Hagan caught a myriad of Medeama defenders off guard before tapping in from close range.

Medeama Miss Chance to Go Top

The visitors held on to the slim lead into the halftime break despite the home side firing from all cylinders in search of the equaliser.

Medeama were awarded a fine opportunity to pull level when Kelvin Nkrumah was brought down in the penalty area by Holy Stars keeper Dubi Tayi in the 58th minute, but centre-back, Yussif Mubarik, struck into the hands of Holy Stars goalkeeper Dubi Tayi.

Holy Stars defender Koffie Hagan turned a villain when he was sent off for attracting a second yellow card in the 85th minute, and four minutes later, substitute Kingsley Braye poked in Medeama’s equaliser in the penalty area, eventually ending the match at 1-1 in full time.

The result leaves ‘Mauve and Yellow’ still in second on 27 points, one behind leaders Aduana FC, with Holy Stars staying in 14th on 17 points from 15 matches.
