Asante Kotoko will look to replicate their 4-2 week 8 drubbing of Karela United when they travel down south as guests of sworn rivals, Hearts of Oak at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday at 4:00 GMT.
Kotoko returned from an unimpressive CAF Confederation Cup where they suffered a 6-1 aggregate loss to Wydad Athletic Club.
Michael Akuffo believes the record Ghana Premier League holders have what it takes to halt the unbeaten streak of Hearts of Oak in the week nine fixture.
Akuffo spoke to AKSC Media on the sidelines of his visit to the club ahead of Ghana’s biggest derby.
“In football, anything can happen. Even after losing big to Wydad, we were able to beat Karela 4-2. Looking at the team’s training, I believe the boys can do something against Hearts of Oak on Sunday. I’m here to support them and motivate them for the game,” the former Kotoko player said.
Asante Kotoko have a better record over Hearts of Oak heading into the week nine fixture – recording five wins, four draws and three losses in their last 12 meetings.
Hearts of Oak are sitting fourth on the league table with 16 points from their first eight matches with Kotoko occupying the eighth position with 11 points and three outstanding matches.
