Michel Dussuyer’s fourth stint with Guinea comes to a close

The Guinea Football Federation (FGF) has announced the departure of national team coach Michel Dussuyer. The 66-year-old French coach was in his fourth stint as coach of the Syli National.

Dussuyer was named coach of Guinea in September 2024. Under the former Benin coach, the Syli National played out a goalless draw against lowly ranked Somalia in the 2026 FIFA World Cup African qualifier Group G match, despite having a striker of Serhou Guirassy’s caliber. Dussuyer’s time with Guinea was in jeopardy after a failed 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.

The FGF announced that the search for a new coach is underway. In an official statement, the federation said it has opened the job application process:

“As part of the restructuring of the national team of the Republic of Guinea, the Guinean Football Federation, in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth and Sports, is launching a call for applications for the recruitment of a high-level coach to fill the position of coach/selector of SYLI NATIONAL A of Guinea. The deadline for submitting applications is Monday, July 7, 2025.”

Guinea is currently fifth in their World Cup qualifying group, five points shy of a playoff spot. They will face Somalia and Group G leaders Algeria in September fixtures from qualifying.
