Miguel Timm pens heartfelt goodbye to Orlando Pirates

More than a month after his departure became public, Miguel Timm, a midfielder who truly captured the hearts of Orlando Pirates supporters, has issued a heartfelt farewell to the club.

The Soweto club announced in late May that Timm’s contract would not be renewed beyond June, bringing an end to his influential three-season tenure. During his time in the Bucs colours, Timm was a cornerstone of Jose Riveiro’s squad, instrumental in securing MTN8 and Nedbank Cup trophies.

His standout performance in the 2022 MTN8 final even earned him a Man-of-the-Match accolade.

Despite his significant contributions, the 2024/25 season saw a surprising dip in Timm’s playing time, as he made just three appearances. He found himself vying for a spot in a crowded midfield alongside talents like Thalente Mbatha, Goodman Mosele, Makhehlene Makhaula, Ndabayithethwa Ndlondlo, and the recent addition of Simphiwe Selepe.

Nevertheless, the Durban-born star will forever be cherished by the Buccaneers faithful, who famously roared “Tiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiimmmmm” whenever he had possession on the field of play.

Timm took to social media to share his parting message with the club and its dedicated supporters.

“I’m writing this with a smile, reflecting on my past 3 years with the club,” the 33-year-old said. “Thank you to the chairman (Irvin Khoza) for allowing me to carry the burdens and hopes of millions of the Orlando Pirates family. Thank you to everyone I’ve crossed paths with during that time, creating unforgettable memories and relationships with the technical team and my teammates – that I still share a special bond with today.”

Timm articulated a sense of accomplishment, stating, “I have fulfilled my duties, and what I was brought to the club to do, which was to contribute to bringing back silverware on a regular basis and seeing the happy people like never before! I tried to understand everyone and everything that is part of this big institution and embody what being a buccaneer is, as best as I could from the day I arrived to my very last day at the club.”

He concluded with heartfelt appreciation for the supporters: “A special mention to the best supporters!!!! Thank you for allowing me to represent millions of you over the years; you will always have a special place in my heart. ONCE, ALWAYS.”

Meanwhile, Sekhukhune United officially unveiled Miguel Timm on Friday, where he’ll reunite with former Pirates teammates Linda Mntambo and Thabang Monare.
