20-year-old Brighton and Gambia national team starlet Yankuba Minteh is gradually making progress as he adapts to the high level of the English Premier League and the former Feyenoord star displayed another moment of brilliance on Sunday.
The highly rated young attacker cut inside from the right wing to produce a savvy finish in Brighton's 1-1 draw against Newcastle. Minteh's seventh goal in all competitions this season put Brighton in contention to surprise the contenders for a UEFA Champions League place next season.
However, it was not meant to be for the hosts to claim maximum points. Newcastle pushed for an equalizer in the second half and it arrived late from the penalty spot for Alexander Isak after a handball was called in the penalty area.
Brighton had to settle for one point, ending any faint hopes for the club of qualifying for UEFA club competition next season. Minteh has been inconsistent at times but the Gambian's moments of brilliance are impossible to ignore and the potential remains high to become a full-fledged star in the Premier League. He has 6 goals and 4 assists in 29 league matches this season for 10th place Brighton.
