Major League Soccer proceeded with a full slate of matches on Wednesday evening and it was a couple of familiar names who stood out among MLS's African stars. Togo national team striker Kévin Denkey's excellent dribble run and finish was the standout moment.
Facing a Toronto FC side that is in awful form, Denkey's 18th minute strike was the difference as FC Cincinnati collected three points away from home. With seven goals in twelve games since joining Cincinnati for a club-record fee, last season's winner of Belgium's Ebony Shoe is providing the goal scoring instincts his club needs to stay at the top of the Eastern Conference.
After a poor start to the season, Gabonese forward Denis Bouanga is finding his form in a Los Angeles FC team that is also settling in slowly this season.
With LAFC already 2-0 up in the second half, Bouanga finished off Seattle Sounders after getting open in space on the left wing. The Gabonese veteran forward now has goal contributions in his last six games for LAFC, during which he has six goals and three assists. Also of note was a late goal from Yaw Yeboah, who scored his first goal for LAFC since arriving as a free agent.
In losing efforts elsewhere, Eric Choupo-Moting scored in a 1-2 defeat for New York Red Bulls at Nashville SC while Wilfried Zaha scored his fourth goal of the season for Charlotte FC in a 1-3 defeat at Orlando City.
MLS resumes play on Saturday with another full slate of games over the weekend.
