Eric Choupo-Moting led New York Red Bulls to a shocking 7-0 victory over reigning Major League Soccer champions Los Angeles Galaxy on Saturday. The Cameroonian forward scored twice as the Red Bulls got revenge in a strong manner for last season’s MLS Cup Playoff final defeat.
The 36-year-old veteran is showing no signs of slowing down with a strong start to life in MLS. Choupo-Moting dribbled his way into space in the 7th minute and placed a low shot beyond the reach of Galaxy goalkeeper John McCarthy.
After Emil Forsberg doubled the lead less than ten minutes later, the former RB Leipzig and Sweden national team star then set up Choupo-Moting for a poacher’s finish soon after the half hour mark.
Forsberg doubled his tally early in the second half and the disaster continued for Galaxy, who have shockingly failed to win in all twelve of their league matches this season. The Red Bulls have been up and down in the first third of the 2025 MLS season are currently a respectable 7th place in the 15-team Eastern Conference.
Choupo-Moting continues to be a reliable force for the Red Bulls since joining in a high-priced deal following a period spent as a free agent. He has six goals and an assist in twelve league matches.
