Egyptian club Modern Sport have officially announced the signing of Nigerian forward Godwin Okwara, formerly of Tala’ea El-Gaish, as part of the club’s ongoing efforts to strengthen their squad ahead of the new season.
The Nigerian striker, also known as Godwin Chika, brings valuable experience having played for several clubs across Africa and the Middle East. His previous stints include Algeria’s ES Sétif, Al-Taawoun of Libya, Iraqi side Al-Shorta, and Nigerian powerhouse Rivers United.
He played 23 games last season for Tala’ea El-Gaish last season, scoring 8 goals and assisting once. Okwara becomes Modern Sport’s seventh signing in the current summer transfer window.
He joins a list of new arrivals that includes international goalkeeper Mohamed Abo Gabal, Rashad El-Metwally and Kamel El-Sayed, Emad Hamdy and Ahmed El-Mazhoud, as well as Mahmoud Mamdouh.
The club is aiming to bounce back from a difficult 2024/25 season, during which they battled against relegation in the Egyptian Premier League.
The recent signings reflect the ambition of the management to ensure an improved campaign in 2025/26.
