Orlando Pirates coach Abdeslam Ouaddou has raised concerns regarding the availability of star attacker Relebohile Mofokeng, who was a notable absentee from the club’s final training session ahead of their CAF Champions League fixture.
The Buccaneers are set to host Lioli FC, the champions of Lesotho, in the second leg of their first preliminary round tie on Saturday, with kickoff set for 3:00 PM (SA time).
Pirates hold a commanding 3-0 aggregate lead, secured by a brace from Tshegofatso Mabasa and a goal from Oswin Appollis in the first leg last Saturday in Bloemfontein.
The 20-year-old Mofokeng played a crucial role in Pirates’ recent 1-0 league victory against Siwelele FC on Tuesday in the Betway Premiership, but he was missing as the team finalised preparations at Orlando Stadium on Friday morning.
When questioned about Mofokeng’s absence, the French-Moroccan mentor was reserved, deferring to the club’s medical staff for clarity.
“I have to speak with my medical department to see what is going on,” Ouaddou stated. “Rele is an important player for us, but we have to speak to the medical team. I can’t tell you more about him.”
Mofokeng has featured in nine game across all competitions for the Soweto giants with zero goal contributions so far.
Meanwhile, Pirates are widely expected to advance, having reached the semi-finals of the same competition last season.
