The Reds took the lead in the 35th minute through Ryan Gravenberch, before Hugo Ekitike doubled the advantage just after the break in the 46th minute. Newcastle pulled one back through Bruno Guimaraes, and William Osula equalized in the 88th minute to set up a tense finale.
Deep into added time, Salah—who had scored in Liverpool’s opening win over Bournemouth—stepped up as a leader once again, providing a decisive assist for Rio Ngoma in the 100th minute to seal the win for Arne Slot’s side.
Newcastle’s hopes had already been dented before the comeback attempt, as Anthony Gordon was sent off in first-half stoppage time, leaving the Magpies to play the entire second half with 10 men.
With the result, the Egyptian winger recorded his first assist of the league season, adding to his opening-day goal, while Liverpool continued their perfect start with back-to-back wins.
