Egyptian star Mohamed Salah was back on the scoresheet, but it was not enough to prevent Liverpool FC from suffering a dramatic 2-1 defeat away to Wolverhampton Wanderers in Round 29 of the Premier League.
Wolverhampton broke the deadlock in the 78th minute through Rodrigo Gomes, who gave the hosts the advantage and ignited the home crowd.
Liverpool responded late in the match, with Salah capitalizing on a defensive mistake to fire home and bring his side level. The goal came after he capitalized on a misplaced pass from a Wolverhampton defender, bursting forward before unleashing a left-footed effort from a tight angle. The shot took a touch off the goalkeeper’s hand before finding the back of the net, leveling the score after Liverpool had trailed 1-0.
It marked Salah’s fourth Premier League goal of the season, in addition to six assists.
Deep into stoppage time, André delivered the decisive blow in the 90+4th minute, scoring a late winner to seal all three points for Wolverhampton and leave Liverpool empty-handed.
The defeat represents a significant setback for Liverpool in the race for a top four finish and UEFA Champions League qualification. The Reds remain on 48 points in fifth place, three behind Aston Villa and Manchester United, both of whom still have a game in hand this round.
With the season entering its decisive phase, the loss could prove costly in Liverpool’s pursuit of a Champions League spot.
