Mohamed Salah on target to help Liverpool defeat Athletic Club

Egypt international Mohamed Salah was among the goals as Liverpool recorded a 3-2 victory over Athletic Club in their second Anfield encounter of the day with the La Liga side on Monday.

Salah steered the Reds into an early lead after finishing off a cross from new signing Hugo Ekitike, before Oihan Sancet levelled for Athletic in the 29th minutes following a set-piece.

However, Cody Gakpo restored the home side’s advantage when he converted from close range shortly after half-time, but yet again, Athletic levelled matters for a second time, Maroan Sannadi finding the net via a deflection with a header at a corner.

Despite Athletic’s leveller mame it 2-2 coming off Gakpo inside the area, he made amends to put Liverpool ahead by drilling a low shot across goal and under Unai Simon in what would prove the game’s deciding moment.

Salah and Liverpool are preparing for the new season with their next assignment, the FA Community Shield against Crystal Palace at Wembley Stadium, on Sunday, August 10. The Reds will kick off their Premier League title defence against Bournemouth at Anfield on Friday, August 15.
