Mohammed Borji: Struggling Bandari FC unveil Moroccan coach

After becoming the first FKF Premier League team to fire a coach in the 2025-26 season, Bandari FC have moved to hire the services of Moroccan coach Mohammed Borji until the end of the campaign.

The Dockers moved to fire coach Ken Odhiambo following a series of poor results from the opening campaign. The club promoted former Kenya national Harambee Stars striker John Baraza to handle the side but on an interim basis.

Having kicked off their campaign with a 0-0 draw against Kariobangi Sharks, Bandari returned home to lose 1-0 against Shabana. The defeat ended Odhiambo’s reign at the club with Baraza taking charge of their third fixture of the season against Murang’a Seal which they won 3-1.

Borji’s first assignment will be against AFC Leopards

Speaking after being appointed, Borji, who will be assisted by fellow Moroccan Tarik Bendamou, said: “I’ve been around for a few days now and I’m really impressed with the hospitality and the team’s win last weekend. I’m here to help Bandari achieve greatness and win the KPL title.”

On why Bandari went for the services of a foreign coach, CEO Tony Kibwana said: “Bringing in a foreign coach is part of our bigger plan—to not only win the KPL title but also build a team capable of competing in continental tournaments like the CAF Champions League.

“They’ve been given a season-long performance-based contract, and we’ll evaluate from there. Modern football requires specialized roles. We will have a strikers’ coach, fitness coach, defenders’ coach—will continue working alongside the technical bench which we had.”

Born on January 30, 1981, Borji is a former Moroccan football player, who last played as a striker for Wydad Casablanca, after joining Pahang FA in Malaysia. Borji featured in the CAF Champions League with FAR Rabat between 2007 and 2008.

His first assignment for Bandari will come after the FIFA international break when they will host AFC Leopards at Mbaraki Sports Club on Wednesday, October 15.
