Mokwena dismisses Ramovic rivalry: ‘Check the archives’

Mouloudia Club d’Alger head coach Rulani Mokwena is refusing to be drawn into claims of a personal feud after his side secured a crucial 2-1 victory over Sead Ramovic’s CR Belouizdad in the league on Monday night.

The match carried significant weight beyond the league table, as it marked the latest clash between the two coaches whose tense relationship dates back to their time managing in the South African Betway Premiership (Mokwena at Mamelodi Sundowns and Ramovic at TS Galaxy).

The reported feud ignited during a contentious Carling Knockout Cup tie where Ramovic’s Galaxy eliminated Sundowns via penalties.

The recent Ligue 1 fixture was highly anticipated, especially since MC Alger had failed to defeat CR Belouizdad in a league match since November 2021. However, Mokwena’s currently unbeaten side managed a spirited 2-1 comeback win after initially going down 1-0.

Mokwena On Ramovic Beef: ‘A Rivalry Needs Two People

When quizzed by the media about whether the victory held any personal significance, Mokwena swiftly shut down the suggestion, placing the onus on reporters to verify past statements.

“No, for a rivalry you need two people with beef, check the archives you cannot quote me say anything about Ramovic. Everything has been from one side and if I am wrong you can check the archives,” Mokwena told reporters after the match.

The coach insisted his pride was solely focused on his current team and club.

“I’m just proud of the team, I’m proud to be part of Mouloudia, I’m proud to be the coach of this group. I am proud to serve and help and even if I can 5%, I am proud to make this contribution it’s for the club and for the fans and this is what makes me more happier.”
