Leicester City’s Moroccan midfielder Bilal El Khannouss has admitted that the Foxes players did not do enough to salvage something from their Premier League game they lost 3-0 to Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux Stadium on Saturday.

Bilal El Khannouss was self-critical, saying he should have scored and that collectively, Leicester City players did not apply themselves fully to show the face of the relegated team.

“We wanted to keep playing the way we played the last two games. We didn’t show enough in the first half. In the second half, to show another face, but unfortunately, we conceded the second one. We kept trying to score, we missed that penalty, a chance to come back into the game, and then it’s done,” he told Leicester City’s media.

The Foxes’ relegation was confirmed the previous week when they lost 1-0 to champions-in-waiting Liverpool in a game the Ruud van Nistelrooy’s men showed fight and never snatched a point.

The Belgium-born Moroccan insisted that Leicester City needed to build on their performance in the Liverpool game and the preceding match against Brighton & Hove Albion that ended 2-2.

El Khannouss was also self-critical of his performance after he missed a chance to score veteran Jamie Vardy’s penalty miss compounding the visitors’ misery.

“That’s football. If you don’t score on one side and concede on the other one, you have to do better in those situations. That’s one of my points I have to work on. Like I said, we all just wanted to keep building on the last two games. We didn’t show enough today. There are still a few games left to show ourselves. We have to do better than the first half,” he said.

Leicester City’s relegation affects Bilal El Khannouss and other Africans, such as Patson Daka from Zambia and Nigerian Wilfred Ndidi.
