Ghana’s female senior national team lost narrowly to Morocco in an international friendly on Friday evening. The game saw new head coach Kim Lars Björkegren’s first major assignment since his appointment as head coach of the Black Queens.

The Swedish trainer signed a two-year deal to replace Nora Hauptle who left to join Zambia’s Copper Queens at the beginning of this year. The international friendly was an exercise meant to help shape the Black Queens ahead of the upcoming Women Africa Cup of Nation to held in Morocco in July.

After an eventful first half where the Ghanaian side held their resolve against the Atlas Lionesses, the Moroccans left no stone unturned in a bid to show their class as a rising continental powerhouse.

The Moroccans looked very good on the ball right from the blast of the whistle, controlling every department of the field. Their dominance paid off in added time when they took advantage of Ghana’s sleepy defence to fetch the winner at the Père Jego Stadium.

Morocco will be the hosting the WAFCON in July and the win serves as a booster for their preparations for the tournament.

Ghana on the other hand will return to to face Morocco club side, AS FAR in yet another friendly three days later to continue to their build up to the for WAFCON.
