The 24-year-old defensive midfielder is out of favor at Bologna and is seeking a fresh start elsewhere to boost his chances of playing in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, which is scheduled for December 2025 in Morocco. El Azzouzi’s time at Bologna has been plagued by injuries and limited playing time. His departure on loan comes at a crucial point in his career.
The Netherlands-born player represented Morocco at the 2024 Paris Olympics and has been part of the senior national team since 2023. Auxerre have agreed a deal in principle to sign El Azzouzi on loan, with no option to buy at the end of the 2025/26 league season.
El Azzouzi made two league appearances last season for Bologna. He remains under contract with the Rossoblù until June 2027.
