Mosimane defends coach Badela after Durban City sacking

Veteran Pitso Mosimane has always had a sharp eye for spotting up-and-coming coaches. Rulani Mokwena is one of the discoveries for the former Mamelodi Sundowns mentor.

Mokwena is now a top coach in charge of MC Alger in Algeria following a stint with Wydad AC last season.

Now, the three-time CAF Champions League winner has commented on the sacking of Sinethemba Badela as Durban City handler. The former Chippa United mentor lasted barely three games on the job with City weeks after filling the void created by Gavin Hunt’s sacking.

This has prompted Mosimane to take to his x.com to call for the protection and nurturing of up-and-coming South African coaches such as Badela.

Just like he prophesied on Mokoena a decade ago, the former Bafana Bafana boss has also vouched for the Badela as the next big thing in the South Africa coaching fraternity.

How Mosimane rates Badela

“This coach is very talented. I see something special in him. South Africa must preserve and nurture its own talent. I spent a full day with him in Bloemfontein and I was very impressed with him,” he wrote.

Mosimane’s comments have since attracted reaction from fans, some urging him to mentor Badela. Some fans also suggested that the former Al Ahly boss should take the sacked City manager under his wings once he picks a new job.

Badela has previously worked for All Stars

Reports in South African media circles have suggested that Jingles was being linked with a sensational return to the Betway Premiership side.

The 36-year-old Badela has previously worked for All Stars, Wydad AC and Sundowns reserves as an assistant coach. Badela won two games and lost once before the axe fell on his head.
