Motsepe: CAF President expected in Tanzania to chair EXCO meeting

The Executive Committee of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) is expected to hold its meeting in Tanzania, Dar es Salaam on February 13, 2026, after CAF President, Dr. Patrice Motsepe approved it.

Speaking on February 9, 2026, Tanzania Minister for Information, Culture, Arts and Sports, Paul Makonda, said CAF officials have already started arriving in the country from Monday for preparations.

CAF have confirmed the meeting on their official website: “The Confederation of African Football (CAF) Executive Committee members will descend on East Africa ahead of the CAF Executive Committee (“EXCO”) meeting on Friday, 13 February 2026 in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania.

CAF meeting to discuss AFCON 2025

The CAF Executive Committee Meeting will be chaired by CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe. The meeting will be followed by a press conference at Hyatt Regency Dar es Salaam at 13h00 local time (10h00 GMT), which will be streamed live on CAF TV. Media Invitation and more information will follow.”

The statement concluded: “The CAF EXCO in Tanzania will deliberate on a number of matters. It is also a significant milestone in the countdown to East Africa’s hosting of the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda 2027 next year.”

Makonda added the holding of the meeting in Tanzania is an opportunity to promote football in the country, and is an example of the diplomacy built by President Samia Suluhu Hassan in making Tanzania appear a safe country with a significant contribution to the sports sector in Africa.

Motsepe congratulates new CECAFA office

Meanwhile, Motsepe has congratulated newly elected CECAFA President Paulos Weldehaimanot Andemariam. CECAFA will host the CAF Africa Cup of Nations Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda 2027 (AFCON).

The CECAFA Elective General Assembly attended by all 11 Member Associations and graced by FIFA, CAF and other stakeholders took place at the Djibouti Palace Kempinski on Saturday.

Weldehaimanot, also President of the Eritrea National Football Federation (ENFF) was elected unopposed. President of the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA), Moses Hassim Magogo and Alexandre Muyenge, President of the Burundi Football Federation (BFF) had earlier withdrawn their candidature for presidency.

President of the Somali Football Federation (SFF), Ali Abdi Mohamed was elected the new Vice President, while Francis Amin Michael and Shema Ngoga Fabrice, Presidents of the South Sudan Football Federation (SSFF) and Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA) respectively.
