Kaizer Chiefs have announced that Mozambican international Edmilson Dove will be leaving the club as they continue their squad revamp.
Dove’s contract is set to expire at the end of June 2025, and Amakhosi have decided not to renew it ahead of the 2025/26 season.
The 30-year-old joined Chiefs in August 2022 from UD Songo in Mozambique, where he had spent six months after previously playing for Betway Premiership side Cape Town City FC.
The defender’s most recent season was significantly impacted by injury. At the start of the 2024/25 campaign, Dove ruptured his Achilles tendon during Chiefs’ pre-season training camp in Turkey. This serious setback necessitated his return to South Africa for reconstructive surgery.
It took Dove seven months to recover from the long-term injury. He eventually made his comeback to the pitch in February 2025, featuring in a Betway Premiership tie against Mamelodi Sundowns.
During his spell at Chiefs Dove demonstrated his versatility by playing both as a left-back and a centre-back. He won the 2025 Nedbank Cup with the team.
The Soweto giants released a statement on Tuesday confirming Dove’s exit: “Kaizer Chiefs and defender Edmilson Dove will part ways when his contract expires at the end of June. The Mozambican international, who joined Amakhosi in August 2022 after spending six months with UD Songo in Mozambique, has been an integral part of the team.
“During his three seasons with the Glamour Boys, he played a total of 56 official matches, showcasing his talent and dedication on the field as a left-back and a centre-back. As a leader, he wore the captain’s armband on a few occasions and also contributed with two goals for Chiefs.
“We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Edmilson for his contributions to the Club and wish him all the best in his future endeavours.”
