Mozambique international Reinildo Mandava has parted ways with Atletico Madrid after the Spanish side opted against extending his contract.
The La Liga team confirmed the exit of the Mambas’ star at the end of his four-year contract on June 30.
“The entire club would like to thank him for his dedication and the effort he has shown throughout his time at Atletico, and we wish him the very best for the future,” the club’s statement reads.
“Atlético de Madrid thanks him for his dedication and the effort he showed throughout his time with our team, and we wish him the very best in his future professional and personal endeavours.”
Mandava made 103 appearances in all competitions including La Liga, Copa del Rey, UEFA Champions League and FIFA Club World Cup.
Diego Simeone’s side acknowledged the mentality Mandava showed during his stay with the club, saying, “he showed real heart and determination in overcoming the serious anterior cruciate ligament injury he suffered to his right knee in January 2023.”
The Beira-born star has since sent his farewell messages to the former La Liga champions.
“Thank you so much to the club for giving me the opportunity to be part of the big Atlético de Madrid family,” he told Madrid media.
“Thank you to my teammates, who treated me so well from the moment I arrived. Thank you to captain Koke, who, from day one – even before we knew each other – came to visit me and made me feel as if I were living a dream. Finally, thank you to the fans for the immense affection they have always shown me and for giving me goosebumps so many times. They are the best in the world. I will always keep supporting this club.”
The 31-year-old signed for Madrid in 2021 after leaving Lille FC in France.
