Mpinganjira defends rotation, Mighty Wanderers go 5 points clear

Mighty Wanderers coach Bob Mpinganjira has justified his rotation policy which nearly backfired at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre on Saturday.

The team popularly known as the Nomads needed substitute midfielder Issac Kaliati’s 90th minute goal from the penalty spot to defeat Mzuzu City Hammers 1-0.

The narrow win put the Nomads five points clear at the summit of the elite TNM Super League.

However, some sections of Wanderers’ family were uncomfortable with the sight of their team nearly dropping points before the late goal.

Winger Wisdom Mpinganjira, whose father is the team’s coach, earned the Nomads the penalty after he was fouled in the box.

In a post-match reaction, Bob Mpinganjira said he needed to freshen up his squad ahead of more domestic assignments.

“We have depth of squad and we have many games coming ahead including cup games. We needed to rest some of the regular players to avoid burn out,” the coach said.

Wanderers will wind up the first round of the 16-member league by playing against Moyale Barracks, Civil Service United away and host Chitipa United.
