Head coach of Asante Kotoko, Abdul Karim Zito has indicated that it is time to return the club to its African giant status by winning the FA Cup – a competition that will qualify them for the CAF Confederation Cup.

The Porcupine Warriors will face Division One club, Golden Kicks in the finals of the FA Cup at the Legon Sports Stadium on Sunday June 15 with the record Premier League holders looking to end the season with a silverware.

Karim Zito said: “When it comes to football, what makes Kotoko great is the achievements and one of the achievements is the FA Cup.

“I remember I played and won and today we are going into it again ad for a period of about ten years Kotoko could not make it either to the Confederation Cup or the Champions League itself.

“So this is a big opportunity for us, all Kotoko family to come together and rally behind the club to achieve this feat so that we announce Asante Kotoko back to Africa again.” Karim Zito told Kotoko media.

Karim Zito has admitted that, lower tier clubs are tough customers when it comes to the FA Cup competition.

“It is very difficult because aside the name given to the competition, all around the world, you might see smaller teams taking out the bigger teams.

“So it’s like the younger teams use the intrinsic motivation to play the game, the desire to play against the bigger clubs.”

Kotoko finished the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League season in the top four with 58 points same as sworn rivals Hearts of Oak after 34 matches.
