Head coach of Asante Kotoko Abdul Karim Zito has reacted to their MTN FA Cup glory over Golden Kick in the finals on Sunday, June 15.
The Porcupine Warriors claimed their 10th title following a controversial 2-1 win over the Division One club at the Legon Sports Stadium.
Striker Kwame Opoku opened the floodgates for the record Ghana Premier League holders in just 16 minutes before Bless Ege pulled parity for Golden Kick moving into the half time mark.
Golden Kick keeper, Kelvin Saaba was adjudged to have fouled Kotoko striker Kwame Opoku with referee Latif Adaari pointing to the spot. Kwame Opoku stepped up to score in the 86th minute to win the trophy for the two time African champions.
Karim Zito said: “I predicted all that has happened but at the end of the day surely we won the cup. You know they [Golden Kick] lose nothing if we beat them but we are a little bit under pressure, trying at all costs to be able to win the cup.
“And the seriously I came with a little bit injured players and there was nothing we could do but at the end of the day they stood the test of time, they were able to match them equally.
“They [Golden Kick] didn’t have any serious chances like the way we created but they were able to play the midfield game more than us because of one or two things.
“So at the end of the day what matters most is who wins and we have won so I am ok. The job I took wasn’t easy because I don’t know the boys but gradually I am ok with them.”
The victory qualifies Asante Kotoko for next season’s CAF Confederation Cup, a competition the club is yet to win.
