It was a night of glitz, glamour and celebration at the Kampala Serena Hotel on Friday as Uganda’s football fraternity came together for the MTN FUFA Awards 2024. The event marked a triumphant return to in-person celebrations, attracting a full house of football stars, dignitaries, and fans.
The evening’s highlight was the crowning of Denis Omedi and Zaina Nandede as Uganda’s top male and female footballers respectively, a fitting recognition of their stellar performances over the season.
Opening the ceremony, FUFA Executive Committee Member and Chairperson of the Organising Committee, Rogers Byamukama, set a hopeful and celebratory tone:
"Tonight is a beautiful day. We are not here to just celebrate footballers but also everyone who supports the beautiful game. We pledge that the 2024/2025 Season Awards will be much bigger than this."
His remarks were met with enthusiasm from the crowd, underscoring the significance of the occasion for players and fans alike.
Delivering his keynote speech, FUFA President Hon. Magogo Moses Hassim expressed pride in the event’s growth, particularly noting its live broadcast on FUFA Tv:
"The last time we had awards, I mentioned that the next event would be broadcast live — and now FUFA Tv is doing exactly that."
The FUFA President also addressed logistical improvements, promising that future editions of the awards will be held earlier to avoid scheduling conflicts:
"We intend to have the 2024/2025 Awards before the end of this year. This will help us overcome the overlap we have experienced in this edition."
With powerful speeches, dazzling performances, and the recognition of the sport’s top talents, the 2024 MTN FUFA Awards reaffirmed their place as a premier event on Uganda’s football calendar.
