Fred Muhumuza has left Vipers SC after being confirmed as the new assistant to Uganda Cranes head coach Paul Put.
His departure allows him to fully commit to national team duties, ending his brief but successful spell at the Kitende-based club.

Muhumuza, who joined Vipers in 2024, steps into the role previously occupied by Sam Ssimbwa. Ssimbwa’s tenure ended last month despite having served as Put’s right-hand man since November 2023, even after the Belgian tactician penned a fresh two-and-a-half-year contract.
During his time with Vipers, Muhumuza formed a formidable partnership with John Ayala Luyinda, guiding the club to a domestic double last season.
His coaching stock further rose earlier this year when he served as co-coach alongside Morley Byekwaso, helping Uganda reach the quarterfinals of the CHAN tournament.
Before rising to prominence in the dugout, Muhumuza enjoyed a playing career with SC Villa and Victors. He later ventured into coaching with stints at URA FC, Bumate United and Tooro Province in the FUFA Drum.
Muhumuza now joins an already robust Uganda Cranes technical team that includes Gerry Oste (Goalkeeping Coach), Denis Mathieu (Performance Coach), Frank Arthur Naudts (Fitness Coach), Jelle Sevenhant (Video Analyst 1), Hichem Boumbar (Video Analyst 2), and Christian Goossens (Sports Scientist), all working under Paul Put’s leadership.
