A first half strike from Ugandan striker Steven Mukwala was enough for Simba SC as they returned to domestic league play with a 1-0 NBC Premier League victory over Singida Black Stars on Wednesday.
It was a tricky match for Simba who had suffered defeat in the final of the CAF Confederation Cup only three days earlier, but the Reds managed to do enough to earn maximum points against a team battling to qualify for the 2025-26 CAF Confederation Cup. Fortunately, some awful goalkeeping from Black Stars' Amas Obasogie helped the cause for the hosts at the KMC Complex.
The Nigerian shot stopper came far off his line to try and make a play on a through pass but ended up stranded as Mukwala beat him to the ball and easily went around before finishing into an empty net for the 43rd minute match winner.
Simba are now one point back of rivals Young Africans with three games remaining in the title race. The two teams are set to meet in mid-June for a title-deciding edition of the Kariakoo Derby after the FIFA window.
