Mumba declares Zambia in CHAN to compete and set standards for AFCON

Zambia national team midfielder Prince Mumba has declared their readiness to take on the best when the African Nations Championship (CHAN) tournament kicks off in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.

Chipolopolo, who will be under Avram Grant, have been drawn in Group A alongside familiar foes Morocco, DR Congo, Kenya and Angola.

“So far, so good. We are getting in shape and getting better every day. Our chances are very high. We are not pushovers. We are in a good group, and we are capable of delivering at the CHAN,” Mumba said as quoted by Bola News.

“The most important thing is that we will try to go there and compete so that we can prepare and set standards for the bigger competition in December. For me, this will be my first time competing at the CHAN, and it’s a good feeling. I’m looking forward to it.”

Mumba’s sentiments were echoed by defender Kabaso Chongo, who said: “This year, we just have to believe in ourselves. We can only perform well if we believe in ourselves. Sometimes, what causes teams not to perform well is lack of belief.

“Preparations are progressing well. Everyone is working hard, following what the coach is saying, and being serious so that we can go and play well at the CHAN.”

Zambia will open its CHAN account on August 7 with a tussle with Congo DR before facing Angola three days later. The third game will be against Morocco on August 14 before concluding the group matches three days later in a clash with Kenya.
