Former AFC Leopards captain Washington Munene has backed Kenya Police FC to lift their first-ever Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League trophy ahead of Tusker and Gor Mahia this season.
The law enforcers are currently sitting top of the 18-team league table with 61 points from 32 matches, six more than second-placed Tusker, and seven more than reigning champions K’Ogalo with only two matches remaining to conclude the season.
“Kenya Police have done a lot in terms of experienced players they have roped in this season,” explained Munene as quoted by Citizen Digital. “The signings they have activated show you how serious this club is, with players like Francis Kahata, David Ochieng, Jesse Were, and Marvin Nabwire injecting belief in the team.
“The league is so competitive both at the top and in the relegation battle. For the first time, it is so open that even the team in 11th position out of 18 could go down if they are not careful in the remaining two matches.
“The same applies at the top. Number three Gor Mahia, Tusker, and leaders Police can all still win it.”
With the league taking a break for the FIFA international window, Police will return to action June 14 with a game against Shabana before they conclude their season against Gor Mahia on June 22.
