Sierra Leone forward Mustapha Bundu has secured a move from Plymouth Argyle to Hannover 96. The Sierra Leonean attacker arrived at the Niedersachsenstadion on a free transfer to become the 2. Bundesliga club's tenth signing of the summer.

Despite Plymouth's relegation from the EFL Championship, Bundu bagged 10 goals and six assists in 37 outings last season.

“Attacker Mustapha Bundu joins the Maschsee on a free transfer from English second division club Plymouth Argyle and arrives with 16 goals and assists in the Championship last season. The Sierra Leone international signs a three-year contract until June 30, 2028,’ reads a statement on Hannover's website.

Speaking on his decision to sign for the club, Bandu said: “What's happening here at Hannover 96 has really appealed to me. Something new is emerging here with the new coach and many new players in the team. The discussions have really excited me.

“I want to be there and play for this club, which has a rich tradition, is known in the football world beyond Germany, has a large community and many fans, and is, of course, always about ambitious goals. I'm ambitious too, and I'm looking forward to this challenge.”

Hannover Managing Director Marcus Mann explained their decision to sign the player. “We are very happy that we were able to convince Mustapha of our commitment during our discussions, and that he has chosen Hannover 96 and our path despite various other options in England and Germany. He brings a very good physique, which is extremely important for his role in our system.

“This includes good pace and strong assertiveness, where his height of just under 1.90 meters is naturally helpful. He can be deployed in the front row on both wings and in the center. He has a good finish, but can also set up his teammates with assists. His pressing behavior when playing off the ball is also noteworthy.

“Overall, Mustapha can be described as a very complete striker, who will enrich our young team with his experience,” Mann concluded.

Bundu is a Sierra Leone international and has made 22 appearances for the West African nation to date, including at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), and in World Cup qualifiers - scoring four goals.
