Mweemba rallies Zambia for WAFCON opener: ‘Morocco are scared of us’

Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) president Keith Mweemba has assured the Copper Queens of his full support and reaffirmed the association’s commitment to ensuring the team is well taken care of as they prepare for their CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) opener against Morocco on Saturday.

Speaking during a team meeting at the Copper Queens’ base in Rabat, Mweemba praised the group’s spirit and acknowledged the team’s continued growth and cohesion.

Looking ahead to Saturday’s opening match against hosts Morocco, the FAZ president reminded the players of past triumphs, referencing Zambia’s victory over Morocco in the Olympic qualifiers.

“We have beaten them before right here. They are scared of us. Let’s follow the strategy of the coach and be tactically disciplined. You need to play for the badge. You need to have the heart of a lion,” said Mweemba. “You can never win a game of football before you play it. I trust you because I know your capacity.

“I told the Secretary of the Treasury that we made certain promises and when we make promises, it has to happen. I want the players to be taken care of. Right now, what I am fighting for is a situation where the team plays and wins, they get paid.”

The Copper Queens will face Morocco in the opener at the Olympic Stadium in Rabat.
