KCCA FC’s versatile and long-serving defender, Fillbert Obenchan, has reaffirmed his loyalty to the Lugogo-based giants by signing a new two-year contract that will keep him at the MTN Omondi Stadium until 2027.
Obenchan, a product of the KCCA FC academy, has been a pillar in the Kasasiro Boys’ defensive setup since breaking into the senior team in 2017. Known for his tenacity, composure, and ability to slot into various positions across the backline, the defender has grown into one of the club’s most dependable and experienced players.
A decade at Lugogo has seen him rise through the ranks alongside fellow stalwarts such as Peter Magambo and Julius Poloto. Now a vice-captain, Obenchan has often taken on the armband in the absence of Poloto, earning the nickname “The Warrior” for his leadership, fighting spirit, and never-say-die attitude on the pitch.
Speaking shortly after committing his future to the club, an emotional and motivated Obenchan shared what the extension means to him:
“I am happy to extend my contract with KCCA FC. This club is my home. I grew up here, and I have achieved everything I have from the game here. The management, the coaching staff, my teammates, and especially our fans have always shown me huge support. I believe in the vision of this club, and I am excited to continue working hard to bring success to KCCA FC. My heart is here, and I am ready for the challenge ahead.”
Last season, Obenchan featured in 15 Uganda Premier League games, starting 14 and making one substitute appearance. He accumulated 1,246 minutes on the pitch, averaging just over 83 minutes per match — a testament to his consistency and fitness levels.
As KCCA FC prepares for the 2025/26 season, the extension of Obenchan’s stay provides not just defensive solidity but also experienced leadership and club identity, elements crucial for any team aiming to reclaim glory.
