Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi has addressed and clarified comments he made last season about needing “Kaizer Chiefs-level players” in his squad.
While addressing the media at the launch of the 2025/26 Betway Premiership season on Tuesday in Sadnton, Nabi was asked if the club’s new signings had brought the team closer to his desired level.
Ahead of the 2025/26 season, Chiefs, have signed Flavio Silva, Ethan Chislett, Nkanyiso Shinga, Siphesihle Ndlovu, Paseka Mako, and Thabiso Monyane.
Last season, Nabi had expressed concerns that his team lacked a certain type of player. He specifically noted the need for powerful players who could shoot in the final third.

“Up top, we have the same kind of players who like to dribble and play in short spaces,” Nabi said. “But we lack a little bit of power and players who can shoot and make decisions. We need to get those players in the future. I want to play for the level of Kaizer Chiefs. We hope that the Christmas gift will be the players who can strengthen the team. But we will do everything with what we have to get better results.”
Nabi now says his remarks were misunderstood. He explained that he wasn’t suggesting his players lacked talent, but rather that he wanted to acquire players who fit his specific game model.
“What I said last season, maybe I was a little bit misunderstood,” Nabi said on Tuesday. “I wanted to emphasise that I was looking for profiles that could fit my game model, not that I didn’t have good players. I just wanted to clarify that.
“The second thing is, we are heading into the new season with new players. The management has tried its best to get us players. We’ll give them time and see in the future if we have made good decisions, depending on how they fit into the team and the game model.”
