Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi has confirmed that he recently held discussions with club chairman Dr Kaizer Motaung regarding plans to strengthen the Amakhosi squad for the new season.

Nabi's first season at Chiefs after joining in July 2024 from Moroccan side AS FAR has been a mixed bag. His arrival was met with excitement from Chiefs supporters eager to see their team reclaim its former glory.

And he delivered as the Tunisian coach ended Chiefs' decade-long trophy drought by clinching the 2025 Nedbank Cup. This historic victory saw the Glamour Boys defeat arch-rivals Orlando Pirates in the final at Moses Mabhida Stadium, marking their first major silverware since 2014.

However, Chiefs had a poor campaign in the league. They failed to secure a top-eight finish and thus missed out on qualification for next season's MTN8. The Soweto giants concluded the 2024/25 season in ninth place with just 32 points, largely due to a nine-match winless streak in the league after their last maximum points haul in March against Magesi FC.

Following the Nedbank Cup triumph, Nabi had stated that his continued tenure at Chiefs was contingent on the club meeting his demands for bringing in quality new players.

Speaking after the Chiefs' goalless draw against Polokwane City FC at FNB Stadium on Saturday, Nabi confirmed his conversation with Chiefs boss Dr Motaung that centred around working to bring in new talent for the next season. This is aligned with Nabi's vision for strengthening the squad.

"On Friday, we had a conversation with the chairman, and we know exactly what needs to be done in terms of players,” said Nabi during the post-match press conference.

“I will not say how many or which kind of players we need, but the recruitment department is working very hard, and everyone knows the needs of the team. The contact has started already, and we hope that we will get what we need.

"But we are sure that the team is going to improve a lot," added a confident Nabi.
