Zitha Kwinika has been hailed as a “soldier” of Kaizer Chiefs by head coach Nasreddine Nabi, who praised the defender’s exceptional mentality and leadership qualities.
Nabi was addressing the media on Monday at the Kaizer Chiefs Village in Naturena ahead of tonight’s crucial top-of-the-table clash against Sekhukhune United in the Betway Premiership.
Kwinika’s resurgence as a key player this season follows a difficult period last campaign, where he was sidelined for much of the year.
He was called back into the squad only toward the end of the season due to injuries, culminating in a triumphant Nedbank Cup final win against Orlando Pirates. This season, he has once again fought for his place, making his way back into the starting lineup after an injury to teammate Aden McCarthy.
“Zitha is a soldier of this club,” Nabi said. “Everything we have noticed about him, is when he was not playing, he never complained. His performances in training were very good, and he showed great respect for the technical staff, management, and other players. Even after not playing, he delivered when called upon.”
The coach further highlighted Kwinika’s leadership, stating, “That is where you see someone who is meant to be a captain. He is meant to be a leader. Everyone respects him so much here because of his attitude, because of the way he conducts himself. It’s very good to have that kind of player.”
The highly anticipated match at FNB Stadium will see an undefeated Chiefs side, who have yet to concede a goal in the league, face off against a formidable Sekhukhune United. The winner will move to the top of the Betway Premiership standings.
Nabi acknowledged the challenge ahead, describing Sekhukhune as a “very tough opponent” with an experienced squad and a competent coach.
“We have felt this time during preparation a real will from our players to do everything to get a positive result,” Nabi added. “It won’t be easy for us or for them. It’s a game that is going to be played on details, and concentration during the whole game is a must. We will try to capitalise on the opportunities we get and be very concentrated, well-organised when we’re out of possession.”
