Uganda Cranes shot-stopper Nafian Alionzi has signed a major three-year partnership with Ethiopian-based international sportswear giant Gofere Sports, marking a significant career milestone off the pitch.
The agreement sees Alionzi become the brand ambassador for Gofere’s latest innovation, "Chakulu" goalkeeper gloves.
The name "Chakulu" is derived from the Aringa language and loosely translates to “hard to beat” – a fitting label for gloves designed for top-tier performance and resilience. Gofere has positioned Chakulu as a symbol of durability, modern design, and elite-level excellence.
“Meet Chakulu, Gofere’s new elite goalkeeper gloves, endorsed by Uganda’s Nafian Alionzi for impenetrable saves and unmatched performance,” the brand revealed in its official announcement this week.
The new gloves are engineered with advanced technology tailored to the needs of today’s goalkeeper—blending comfort, flexibility, and cutting-edge performance. They are available in multiple sizes, ranging from youth players to professionals, ensuring accessibility for all levels.
Key Features of the "Chakulu" Gloves:
Breathable Speedo Mesh: Keeps hands cool and dry during high-intensity games.
Latex Grip Foam: Offers exceptional ball grip in all conditions.
Windproof Construction: Provides extra insulation in cold, windy environments.
Elastic Cuff Fastener: Ensures a secure and adjustable fit for maximum wrist support.
Silicone Printing: Enhances grip durability and longevity.
Lightweight & Flexible: Promotes natural hand movement while maintaining solid protection.
A Strategic Partnership
Gofere’s decision to partner with Alionzi reflects a strategic move to leverage his influence both at home in Uganda and in the Ethiopian football market, where he now plies his trade with Mechal SC—a club also affiliated with the Gofere brand.
This collaboration is expected to be a mutually beneficial. Gofere boosts visibility and credibility for their new product through Alionzi’s ambassadorial role, while the goalkeeper benefits from financial rewards and further branding opportunities.
Though specific terms of the deal remain undisclosed, sources confirm that Alionzi will receive a substantial cash package (in millions) alongside numerous pairs of "Chakulu" gloves for training and match use. His responsibilities will include public endorsements, media promotion, and sharing his personal experiences with the gloves to drive consumer interest.
Where to Buy Chakulu Gloves
The "Chakulu" goalkeeper gloves are now available in Gofere showrooms located in Addis Ababa, Dire Dawa, Kampala, and Juba. Additionally, online sales are set to begin in September 2025, giving customers across Africa and beyond the chance to easily purchase the gloves through the Gofere Online Shop.
This venture highlights Gofere’s growing commitment to supporting African football talent by delivering high-quality and affordable sports equipment tailored for the continent’s unique demands—particularly in goalkeeping.
